Metro police issued a warning to Johannesburg motorists on Wednesday afternoon after heavy rains left several roads flooded.
Parts of Eloff and Kliprivier Roads in the CBD and several routes in the south of Johannesburg were flooded.
The metro police’s Edna Mamonyane warned that other parts could be affected if the rain continued.
"We'd like to call motorists to just try and exercise a little bit of patience and caution," she said. "Please put on your headlamps and try and be visible so
that other road users can be able to see you."
Meanwhile, two people have died while trying to cross a stream in Ladysmith following heavy rain in KwaZulu-Natal over the last week.
This brings the total number of people killed in the province to three.
Around 400 people in different towns were displaced by the heavy downpours.
Gift of the Givers' Imtiaz Sooliman said they were asked to dispatch teams to Ladysmith and Newcastle by the provincial government.
"Most of the damage is on the outskirts where the rivers are, so this is where the teams are going now."
The Water Affairs Department has issued flood warnings for four dams including the Vaal, Bloemhof and Gariep. Emergency services officials are on standby should
water levels rise dramatically.
