Tropics Magazine is launching the Tropics Awards, this year, to celebrate the very best iof African thinking from around the world. The Awards are open to everyone involved in arts and culture, showcasing creativity and innovation that is at the very heart of media communications. Winning a Tropics Award demonstrates that your creation is leading the world in its creative and innovative media thinking, and that your team is delivering effective, impactful solutions to brand marketing challenges. Entries from over 26 countries are received on an annual basis and Tropics Magazine encourage you to submit your best work from every corner of the globe.

Entries are judged by senior industry leaders. As our panel of experts, they will determine the winners of the prestigious Tropics Awards 2011. Your work will be reviewed by judges from around the world on the following criteria; Insight, Strategy, Execution and Results. Through our online judging process, the shortlist will be decided. Final judging will then take place to select the winners.

 

This year, for the first time, Tropics Awards 2011 will take place online (on this web site). Winners are presented with their certificates at the close of the competition. Next year,  we are planning a Gala Dinner for the closing ceremony and the most senior and influential executives from the worlds of media, entertainmen, culture , fashion and advertising will be in attendance.

 Rules of the competition

 
Any person selected by the Jury of the "Tropics Awards", and consequently part of the competition, will accept the competition rules below we strongly suggest you read them carefully before the start of the competition.

 

* Who is eligible to enter?

The contest is for the best African talents in almost fifteen different categories. Contestants should send their portfolio (bio, pictures...) to tropics.info@gmail.com and then the jury will select only the best ten (10) contestants of each category. It's only after publication of this list that the public is invited to vote for their favourite candidate. Applicants must be aged at least 18 years.

* What are the different categories of the competition?

Tropics ™ Awards as a virtual contest has the mission to reward only the best talent among the finalists of the following categories:


-Fashion
-Media
-Music
Cinema
-Comedy
-Photography
-Literature
-Events
-NGOs
-Entrepreneurship
-Modeling
-Beauty
-Hair

-Cuisine

-Magazines



This is to encourage to stimulate the spirit of creativity and pragmatism into young minds, and show the authenticity and the intellectual ability of Africans to the world. Youth must know they also can help develop their continent on these cultural sectors.

* What is expected of each contestant?

Any candidate selected into the Top Ten (10) should behave as a role model for the rest of his life. We would like this competition to be a gateway to the materialization of its projects. Those who will use:


* Racism, sexism, heterosexism, religious prejudice or other forms of hatred
* Pornography
* Blaspheme
* Activities on piracy or warez
* Activities related to cults or witchcraft
* The activities related to gangs or other violent groups
* The degradation or humiliation of adults, children or animals
* Goods or services that are illegal will be disqualified.

 

 

One winner per category will be revealed and a final prize will close the contest. The jury will ensure that the winners of the previous edition are not eligible to win the same prize (ie, be selected in the same category) in the next editions. This list is not exclusive and we reserve the right to disqualify any candidate for any reason.

* Protection of intellectual property

We therefore asking all candidates to certify that we have the necessary permissions to use images, audio, text and other content that will be required for this purpose.

* Participation and International Languages

Tropics Magazine, the Governing Body of the Tropics Competition Awards ™, is responsible for providing the judges who evaluate the applications. Currently, a big job is being done in search of young talents around the world and also verify the facts from our sources. We are accepting applications for  English and French speaking contestants. Those who speak other languages are also accepted but we do not guarantee that we will consider these applications because it will take more time to judge.

NOTE: All correspondence and communications from us will always be written either in French and English, regardless of country of origin of the contestant.

* Award Categories

- The same candidate may be classified in more than one category (if any) and can win the title in the final.

-Tropics Magazine reserves the right to add or remove categories at any time.


* Winning a prize

-The winners will automatically receive a certificate from Tropics Awards, which will highlight the performance and the category won by the contestant. They can then add their certificate in their official websites or on their social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Hi5 ...).

-Each finalist of one of the categories will automatically become Tropics Magazine's partner and will get coverage for all his events and projecs.


-The Sponsors list is not yet finalised, there are also prizes to be won as well.

 

 

* Evaluation Process

-Contestants will be notified of the results from our judges within 1-2 weeks from the date of publication of their applications.
-All decisions of our judges are final, they can not be questionned.


* Registration fees and foreign exchange

The contest is free. The public has the opportunity to provide our contestants with links, support, comments...to encourage them in their quest and also some appreciation for their work. Once the winner of each category has been announced, we will give the public a chance to vote for the most talented man/woman who will won the title of the "Tropics Awrds 2011". The number of votes received per candidate should not, in any case, influence the final decision of the judges.
