Tropics Magazine, the first bi-lingual (English & French) online magazine from Africa which caters to a global community of fashionistas, trendsetters and readers is launching the 1st edition of the “Tropics Icons of the Year” with the following categories for the year 2011: 


Fashion Designer of the Year
Music Icon of the Year
Movie Icon of the Year
Sports Icon of the Year
Make-up Artist of the Year
Hairdresser of the Year
Fashion Photographer of the Year
Humanitarian Icon of the Year

Tropics Icons of the Year is an annual issue of Tropics Magazine that features artists and sports people from Africa, Europe, United States of America, Asia and Australia and elevates their efforts and work in order to inspire the upcoming talents and also our very own way to empower our communities through arts and culture. 

We invite exclusively professionals to submit „only one photo‟ (jpeg format) of their best or completed work in the above mentioned categories, together with their business link and short introduction and work experiences.

The final winners of the above categories will receive a publication of their work in Tropics Magazine’s special issue “Tropics Icons of the Year”; promotion in a newsletter to 100,000 professionals, potential clients worldwide; year-long coverage on the Tropics Magazine‟s website; media coverage and critical acclaim by our distinguished panel of judges. You will also receive a Tropics Magazine graphic to post on your website announcing your winning status, along with a final press release. 

The jury is composed by hand selected professionals of art, music, fashion and culture.

Official Online Contest Rules


a) Please submit 1 photograph exemplifying the entire completed project/work. Entries may be submitted by email ( If one individual is not the sole creator, all other participants significantly contributing to the design of the project must be given credit as part of the submission, regardless of professional discipline. Name the team in your online submission, and credit will be given to all who contributed in the project. Submission date: From now until Jan.7th. Competition starts: Jan. 10th. Online voting process: From Jan. 10th-Jan, 23rd. Official announcement of winners: Jan. 26th, 2012. All entries submitted become the sole property of Tropics Magazine and will not be acknowledged or returned. Use of any device to automate entry is prohibited. Tropics Magazine is not responsible for entries not received due to difficulty accessing the internet, service outage or delays, computer difficulties or other technological glitches.

a) The contest is open to all professionals who are 18 years of age or older.
b) Entrants are required to provide truthful information and Tropics Magazine will reject and delete any entry that it discovers to be false or fraudulent. Tropics Magazine will disqualify any entry from individuals who do not meet the eligibility requirements, and Tropics Magazine will also delete any entry received from persons under the age of 18 in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
c) No prize substitutions, cash equivalent, or transfer of prizes permitted.

a) Decisions of Contest Entities management with respect to the Contest are final. There will not be any correspondence nor are legal steps against it accepted.

a) By participating in contest the participants, submitters, winner or winners agree to have their name, voice, photos, videos or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest without financial or other compensation, and, where legal, to sign a publicity release confirming such consent.
b) Tropics Magazine, in his sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the entry process, the operation of the Tropics Magazine’s website(s) or is otherwise in violation of the rules. It further reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the contest if it is not capable of completion as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention or technical failures of any sort.
c). The Contest Entities reserve the right to make changes in the rules of the Contest. If due to circumstances beyond the control of Tropics Magazine, any competition or prize-related event is delayed, rescheduled, postponed or cancelled, Tropics Magazine reserves the right, but not the obligation, to cancel or modify the contest and shall not be required to award a substitute prize.
e) Failure to comply with the Contest rules may result in a contestant’s disqualification solely at the discretion of the Contest Entities.
f) The Contest Entities are not responsible for typographical or other errors in the printing, the offering or the administration of the Contest, or in the announcement of a prize.
