Rehearsals are underway, Sun City is abuzz and excitement is reaching fever pitch ahead of the 18th Annual South African Music Awards, which is preparing to lay out an entertainment spectacular to rival all others on 29 and 30 April 2012.

The end of the month marks the annual celebration of music that is The Annual MTN South African Music Awards, now in its 18th edition.

For those who are unable to make the trip to Sun City for the awards weekend, there will be plenty of opportunities to follow the MTN SAMA 18 action – on television (SABC1 is broadcasting the awards live on the 30th from 8.30pm), via social media updates or through the live digital streaming of the awards, build-up, arrivals and backstage action to your desktop, laptop, tablet or cellphone.

But for the lucky nominees, guests, hosts, VIPs, media and members of the public who have packed their glam outfits and headed to a booked-out Sun City for the MTN SAMA 18 weekend, let’s just say that two days of unbelievable world-class entertainment await them.

Performers and participants have been hard at work rehearsing for the past three weeks to ensure a slick and impressive MTN SAMA production.

The non-broadcast awards will take place at 8pm on Sunday, April 29 and can be viewed via live streaming and through video-on-demand.

During the day on both Sunday and Monday, artists and guests are invited to browse around the exclusive SAMA 18 Lifestyle Emporium between 9am and 4pm, where MTN SAMA 18 headline and goodie bag sponsors will have their products and services – including pamper treatments and designer gear – on display.

Edgars will be presenting a fashion show upstairs in the SAMA 18 Lifestyle Emporium on Monday 1pm, demonstrating once again how seamlessly music and fashion go together. KIA is providing the official transportation for guests around Sun City and will be delivering all the SAMA 18 stars to the yellow carpet.

This year, among the festivities will be the official Heineken VIP after-parties, where top DJs will get the dancefloors pumping and where revellers can get jiggy with a cold Heineken in their hand.

MTN SAMA 18 is gearing up to toast South African music’s finest sons and daughters in style, with upwards of 300 media representatives converging on the entertainment complex to bring all the drama and elation to the music-loving public. It’s going to be an affair to remember!
