TROPICS MAGAZINE – IT’S A GREAT HONOUR TO HAVE YOU HERE TODAY. WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT STATE OF MIND?
SUNDAY OMONY- Peace, love and the pursuit of happiness. I’m feel energized and looking forward to the days ahead of me with high hopes for the future.
TM-YOU ARE ONE REMARKABLE CHILD OF AFRICA. WILL YOU PLEASE TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR ROOTS AND BACKGROUND?
SO- I’m was born Uganda. My district is called Kitgum located in northern Uganda. I speak the Acholi language. My family migrated to Canada in 1991 when I was young. We’ve lived in Calgary, Alberta for 21 years.
TM – WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING & WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK IN THIS FIELD?
SO- I’m a plus size model, host and a Procurement Analyst. I enjoy fashion, event emceeing and working in the oil & gas industry. I’m always learning something new.
TM- THE WHOLE WORLD IS CELEBRATING TODAY THE "AFRICA’S DAY." WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT?
SO- I’m excited! It’s vital for us to celebrate mama Africa. Our culture and heritage is so rich and beautiful. I’m proud to be from Africa. When I meet new people I’m always happy to share with them where I come from. We must never forget our roots.
TM - AS SON / DAUGHTER OF AFRICA, WHAT KIND OF CONTRIBUTIONS DO YOU BRING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR CONTINENT?
SO- I’m committed to giving a voice to the voiceless in my motherland. I’m strengthened by experience and driven by purpose. I’m involved with many non-profit organizations operating in Africa such as GuluWalk, Hearts 4 Peace, Unicef...etc. These wonderful organizations are determined to make positive changes for children, families and build sustainable communities in Africa. I’m honored to be working with them.
TM - WHAT EXACTLY WOULD YOU LOVE TO TELL THE WORLD ABOUT AFRICA THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW ALREADY? PLEASE JUSTIFY YOUR ABOUT.
SO- Don’t believe everything that you hear about Africa on television! Africa is a beautiful, exciting and inspirational place rich in minerals and resources. It’s full of potential. The people are hard working, happy, love family, cherish their culture and heritage.
TM – ACCORDING TO YOU, WHO ARE THE HERO OR THE AFRICAN ICONS WHO DESERVE THE GREATEST FAME AND NEED TO BE CELEBRATED TODAY?
SO- There’s many African hero's that I admire. However, I really appreciate the work of Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. They continue to empower and inspire me everyday.
SO- I think it depends on debate topic. With that said, I do feel that as a community we must always continue to work to improve our image in our local communities and globally. This will help remove any negative views some people have formulated in their minds about blacks folks.
