2011 Africa Day is here!

Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), presently recognized as the Africa Union (AU). The African Union, comprised of 53 member states, has brought together the continent of Africa to collectively address the challenges it has faced, such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty.

This years theme of Africa Day is "Africa and the Diaspora." The New York celebration will be held in New York City on May 31, 2011.

Africa Day, an initiative of the African Union, falls on the 25th May each year. Africa Day also offers an opportunity to celebrate the heritage and identity of African communities. We hope that other organisations and groups involved in education and development education will organise and participate in events all around the country. Happy Africa Day! / La Journee de l'Afrique, une initiative de l'Union africaine, se celebre chaque 25 mai. Elle offre aussi l'occasion de celebrer le patrimoine et l'identite des communautes africaines. Nous esperons que d'autres organisations et groupes impliques dans l'education et le developpement seront prets d'organiser des evenements et de participer a des manifestations au niveau mondial.
